How to Fish: Crab Carcass location and Squid bait

Crab Carcass is the bait to look for when hunting Squid. Snake's v1.1.3 community guide locates it on the new islets between main islands. The author also answered a Squid question with this bait on October 15.

Where to find Crab Carcass

Check the mini islands along your crossings. The euro-fishing discussion describes small sandy islands as the place to collect it. Keep your radar available for the return journey.

Patch 1.1.2 increased the new bait spawn from two to three on its mini island. This is a patch-note quantity, not a guarantee that three unused pickups will be waiting when you arrive.

How to use it for Squid

  1. Collect the item named Crab Carcass, then select it as your fishing bait.
  2. Fish with that bait. A Squid is a possible catch, not a guaranteed next bite.
  3. After your first kill, check the Fishipedia entry: patch 1.1.3 added bait names to unlocked entries.

Is this the Spider Crab or a crab shell?

Do not assume that any crab-looking object is the bait. The Spider Crab is covered separately as a main-story boss. Players also use the term “crab shells,” but the sources reviewed here do not establish that shells and Crab Carcass are interchangeable or describe a conversion recipe. Check the item name.

Why won't Tench appear?

Patch 1.1.2 explicitly fixed Tench failing to spawn from the new bait. Check your installed version before following advice written before that fix. Neither the patch nor the cited guide promises a catch rate or a number of casts.
